The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia has demanded from Ukraine's allies a "mature" stance that allows for negotiations to channel efforts to stop the war initiated by the Russian invasion of 2022, warning that the military campaign "will continue" if Moscow does not perceive "the will to ensure that the Kiev regime complies with what was agreed with its Western sponsors," in a veiled reference to the proposals put forward by the United States during a summit held in August 2025 in Alaska.
The Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Galuzin, has defended before the Russian agency TASS Moscow's willingness to follow the diplomatic path. "We are always willing to negotiate, we are open to a negotiated solution, and we have demonstrated this on more than one occasion: the other side, the Ukrainian side, has withdrawn from the negotiations; it has withdrawn from them and then self-excluded, behaving, to put it mildly, inconsistently," he pointed out.
In this context, the 'number two' of Russian diplomacy has emphasized that if "on the side of Ukraine's sponsors there is a mature understanding of the need for an honest and constructive dialogue aimed at eliminating the root causes of the conflict, then perhaps prospects for dialogue may arise."
Galuzin has warned, however, that "if there is no such willingness on the other side, and if there is no will to ensure that the Kiev regime complies with what was agreed with its Western sponsors, then we will continue the special military operation," a term with which the Kremlin defines its invasion and the campaign of attacks on Ukrainian territory.
The deputy minister has added that "we will seek to eliminate the root causes of the conflict, we will defend our interests through military means, acting with precision and effectiveness to minimize destruction and protect our population on both sides of the contact line."
Russia maintains its insistence on the implementation of the proposals presented by the Donald Trump Administration at the summit in August 2025 in Anchorage, Alaska, the source of conflicting interpretations between Washington and Moscow. The Kremlin appeals to what it has dubbed the 'Anchorage spirit' as a basis for ending the war in Ukraine, claiming that a supposed consensus was reached there.
According to the Russian version, President Vladimir Putin supported in that meeting a 27-point plan developed by the United States, previously sent to Moscow by special envoy Steve Witkoff for its study, which would include, among other aspects, control of the Donbas in exchange for freezing the current front lines.
However, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has emphasized that "no type of binding agreement" was signed and that, had such a commitment occurred, the war would have already concluded.
