The newly appointed head of the political wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Jalil al Haya, has reaffirmed the group's commitment to the unity of all the Palestinian people, in a context where the recovery of the Gaza Strip "does not depend on exclusivity or exclusion."
In his first public intervention after assuming the leadership of Hamas's political area this week, Al Haya wanted to send a message of rapprochement to those, both within Palestinian society and in other countries, who are truly committed to ending the Israeli aggression and restoring normalcy to the Strip.
"We will continue to work in all directions until we free them from harm and suffering, and restore to Gaza the dignified life that corresponds to its beloved, proud, and patient people," stated the Hamas leader, as reported this Wednesday by the Palestinian newspaper 'Filastin.'
"We extend our hand to everyone, as the current stage does not depend on exclusivity or exclusion," Al Haya added, who also called on the international community, and especially on the countries involved in mediation efforts, to maintain pressure on Israel to fulfill the commitments made and cease its offensives.
In this regard, he defended the opening of an internal Palestinian dialogue aimed at reconfiguring its national institutions, including the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which has been in a deep legitimacy crisis for years despite being the entity recognized on the international stage.
Al Haya emphasized that this renewal of the PLO must be based on "democratic foundations and a national consensus that guarantees the full political participation" of all factions and currents in decision-making, something that, in his view, would allow putting an end to the suffering that the Palestinian population endures.
On the other hand, he called on the United Nations and the rest of the international community to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities regarding the civilians of the Gaza Strip and to demand that Israel be held accountable for the war crimes attributed to it, especially those committed in recent years.
The appointment of Al Haya as the new leader of Hamas's political wing comes after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in an attack carried out in July 2024 in Tehran and the death of Yahya Sinwar in an Israeli operation during the offensive on Gaza.
Al Haya, who managed to survive an Israeli attack launched in September 2025 against Doha, had until now held the position of 'number two' in the political leadership of the movement since the assassination in October 2024 of his predecessor, Salé al Aruri, in another Israeli bombing in Beirut.
The authorities of Gaza have raised this Wednesday to more than 73,300 the death toll since the beginning of the Israeli offensive following the attacks of October 7, 2023, among them 1,180 deceased since the ceasefire came into effect in October 2025.
