Two people have lost their lives and five others have been injured in an attack perpetrated by armed individuals against a security forces checkpoint located on the road connecting Baneh and Saqqez, in the Iranian Kurdistan region, in the northwest of the country.
The deceased have been identified as Sergeant First Class Mohamad Hasan Beigi and recruit Martin Ahadi, according to Iranian media, which describe the attack as "terrorist".
According to this information, the attackers opened fire on the security personnel at the exit of Baneh, causing a shootout in which two police officers died.
"Among the gunshot victims are two more officers and a three-year-old girl who have already been transferred to health centers," the Iranian news agency Mehr has indicated.
The Revolutionary Guard attributes authorship to "counter-revolutionary" elements, raises the number of injured to five, and warns that one of them "is in critical condition."
So far, the involvement of any Kurdish armed group has not been communicated, although the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) denounced three attacks against its fighters last Thursday. If the connection is confirmed, it would be the first serious incident between Kurdish militias and Iranian security forces since the start of the US and Israeli military offensive that began on February 28.
