Venezuelan authorities have updated the toll from the double earthquake that shook the central coastal strip of the country on June 24, and now count more than 4,560 fatalities. The number of injured remains, as in the latest official reports, at 16,740 people.

The president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, explained in a message disseminated on social media that 4,561 people have lost their lives due to the earthquakes and that 16,740 have been injured following the earthquakes of magnitude 7.5 and 7.2 on the Richter scale. The tremors have also caused severe damage to 856 buildings, of which 190 have collapsed.

According to the latest official report released by the authorities, 6,462 people have been rescued alive and 20,231 are housed in temporary camps while efforts continue to clear the debris and try to restore some normality in the country. International rescuers and deployed personnel (2,471 and 30,989, respectively) are participating in these tasks.

The toll of affected people includes 17,907 individuals who have been left homeless. The authorities have also indicated that 30,692 volunteers are still on the ground, while a total of 33,085 patients have received medical attention following the earthquakes, followed by 1,254 aftershocks registered to date.
