The Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE) will hold a session of its Permanent Committee this Friday in the Senate focused on institutional cooperation between legislative chambers, the debate on the centralization of the new multiannual financial framework, and the review of working groups, including the one dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The meeting, promoted by the Presidency of CALRE, currently held by the Parliament of the Canary Islands, will combine in-person attendance with remote participation, with the aim of facilitating the involvement of Conference members from different European regions.

This network of European regional parliaments was established in 1997 in Oviedo and includes representatives from legislative assemblies in Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.

In the Spanish case, the regional parliaments of Castilla-La Mancha, Valencian Community, Euskadi, Asturias, Andalusia, Canary Islands, Galicia, Catalonia, Extremadura, Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Navarre, and Cantabria are part of this Conference.

What will be discussed at the meeting?

According to sources from the Presidency of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, reported to Europa Press, this Friday's session is aimed at preparing the next Plenary Assembly, reviewing the Conference's working group activities, and addressing various matters of institutional cooperation between European regional parliaments.

Regarding Artificial Intelligence, there is a specific group coordinated by the Legislative Assembly of the Azores, which will present the content of the ongoing debates in this area to the Permanent Committee.

Likewise, the meeting will allow for a debate on the new financial framework, after the European Commission proposed to centralize the management and development of these funds by country.
