The president of the People's Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has urged Peruvian citizens living in Spain this Saturday to give their support at the polls to candidate Keiko Fujimori in the second round of the presidential elections in Peru, scheduled for this Sunday, June 7.
"On Sunday your voice counts, your decision matters. I ask you to participate and to support Keiko with your vote," Feijóo stated in a video disseminated on the social network X, in which he specifically addresses the Peruvian community settled in Spain and in which he emphasizes that he sees Fujimori as "the best option" for the country.
The PP leader stressed that the Fuerza Popular candidate "possesses the capacity and commitment to defend the freedom, democracy, and prosperity of all Peruvians," on a day he described as "decisive" for the future of a nation that, in his opinion, "needs stability and a solid project."
In his message, Feijóo also wanted to highlight the contribution of the Peruvian diaspora in Spain and assured that he knows firsthand "the work, the effort, and the honesty" of resident Peruvians, as well as "the deep affection" they maintain for their country of origin.
Peru faces the second round of presidential elections this Sunday, in which Fujimori, the Fuerza Popular flagbearer in her fourth attempt to reach the head of state, faces the left-wing candidate Roberto Sánchez, from Juntos por el Perú. The latest Ipsos poll placed Fujimori with 38% of voting intention compared to 35% for her adversary, in a scenario marked by the institutional wear and tear of a country that has had ten presidents in ten years.
