The spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group in the Madrid City Council, Reyes Maroto, has reiterated her support for the presumption of innocence of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, following the seizure of jewels in the search of his office within the framework of the 'Plus Ultra case', with a preliminary appraised value of 1.3 million euros.

"We have to let Justice work, we are at the beginning of a procedure, and above all defend the presumption of innocence," she stated when questioned by the media at the demonstration in defense of public education, where she emphasized that one must also pay attention to the "PP's procedures, which are not few."

Zapatero is scheduled to testify as an investigated person this Wednesday and Thursday before the judge of the National Court who is investigating the alleged irregularities in the destination of the airline's bailout money and his alleged influence in the granting of said aid, as well as in relation to the seized jewels.

Maroto, who was Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism when the Plus Ultra bailout was approved in March 2021, insisted that Justice must be "allowed to work," especially in the initial phases of the process, and highlighted the importance of safeguarding the presumption of innocence "in a democratic state like Spain."
