The Minister of Health, Mónica García, has emphasized that, in light of the accusations against former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, what is essential are "evidence" and not "a social parallel trial."
The leader of Más Madrid has lamented that in Spain the analysis of the facts is being sidelined to focus on "statements" or "reports," and has made it clear that her party refuses to assess the data known so far about the investigation until the former socialist president himself speaks out. She indicated this in an interview on "Hora 25" of Cadena Ser, reported by Europa Press.
In this line, she has urged Zapatero to provide the necessary explanations to clarify "really what has happened." She has also pointed out that the "facts" that have emerged "are not only ugly, but they are complicated to explain." However, she specified: "I neither trust nor stop trusting until I have the evidence that confirms what is right now."
García has also pointed out that she would "like" to maintain her trust in "justice" and that "each of the individuals" is guaranteed "a fair trial with evidence" that is "true" and "really compelling," so that, if Zapatero ultimately has to be judged, "let him be judged."
In relation to the rescue of Plus Ultra that Justice is investigating, and for which Zapatero is accused of alleged crimes of criminal organization, influence peddling, money laundering, and document forgery, the minister has recalled that during the pandemic more airlines were helped through a loan from which "almost everything" has already been repaid.
She has also emphasized that this type of operation must pass legal and technical filters and requirements that the Council of Ministers cannot overlook. "And that is what I can be certain of. Up to here I have nothing more to say," García concluded.
Finally, the head of Health has referred to the "political linkage" that many progressive voters maintain with Zapatero, "which has nothing to do with the private activities" he has developed after leaving the Presidency. "Surely they generated expectations that Mr. Zapatero was going to be different from the rest of the former presidents. That said, he has to provide all the explanations," she emphasized.
