The general secretary of PSOE-A and deputy general secretary of PSOE, María Jesús Montero, has described this Saturday as "excessive and disproportionate" the resolution of magistrate Juan Carlos Peinado to open a jury trial against Begoña Gómez, wife of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. The decision also includes the withdrawal of her passport, the prohibition of leaving national territory, and the obligation to appear every fifteen days at the court to sign.
In a message published on her X social network account, Montero stated that it is an "excessive and disproportionate decision, more typical of a political trial than a fair process against an innocent person."
Likewise, she stressed that "Begoña Gómez has not committed any crime and the presumption of innocence cannot be buried under the political and media noise of those who seek to destroy a woman to harm the Government."
The socialist leader concluded by expressing her confidence that "the truth always ends up winning, to the misfortune of manipulators and their accomplices."
