Brazil's Civil Defense has reported this Saturday that its official alert system has been the target of a cyberattack, an incident that is already being investigated by the competent authorities.

As detailed by the agency, the platform used for sending notices was deactivated around 01:30 local time. Subsequently, the system was maliciously reactivated to send notifications to different areas of the country on behalf of "someone outside the National System of Civil Protection and Defense".

The issued alert was classified as Extreme Alert and included the word "misanthropy," a term that alludes to hatred of humanity. "It is probably a hacker attack," the institution stated in an official statement.

The National Secretariat of Civil Protection and Defense, dependent on the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development, has indicated that it will contact the Federal Police and will take the necessary measures to restore the system's operability as soon as security conditions are fully guaranteed, the note concludes.
