The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has assured that he takes "with calm and with patience" the recent statements by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who has gone so far as to threaten to cut trade with Spain. Despite this, he reported that he was able to converse in a relaxed manner with him about the World Cup, without any "tension" occurring.
During the press conference after the NATO summit held in Ankara (Turkey), Sánchez detailed that he had "an informal chat" with Trump in which both commented on issues related to football and the World Cup being played these days in the United States.
According to the head of the Executive, this brief meeting took place after the appearance before the media in which Trump lashed out at Spain, calling it "a lost cause" and ordering to interrupt trade, and stressed that "absolutely there has been no type of tension." "On the contrary, everything has been good words and kindness," he stressed.
In this context, Sánchez reiterated that he interprets the statements of the US president "with calm, with patience and a certain normality," stressing that it is not the first time he has threatened to break commercial ties. He also recalled that this matter has been transferred to Brussels and highlighted that bilateral relations between both countries are "very positive."
