The Embassy of the United States in Spain issued a warning this Friday to its nationals to avoid traveling to Ceuta and Melilla due to the possibility of "unpredictable and dangerous" situations following the massive arrival of more than 50,000 people recorded in the last 24 hours in the Autonomous City of Ceuta.
In an official statement, the American diplomatic mission urged U.S. citizens to "not travel to the affected areas" where "Spain has deployed the Spanish Army to contain the developing situation, along with the National Police and the Civil Guard."
Likewise, it has requested that Americans already in the area "avoid any demonstration that may turn violent" and strictly follow the "instructions of local authorities" to minimize risks.
The embassy has also recommended that travelers closely follow information from local media and official government alerts, as well as "notify friends and family" about their situation and whereabouts.
Finally, the diplomatic representation emphasized that ferry services between Ceuta and the Peninsula "are still operating" and suggested checking the website of the Port of Ceuta to confirm available schedules and organize departure from the Autonomous City.
