The Governing Council of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has appointed Victoria Tur Gómez as the new head of the Agency, a position she will officially assume starting August 1st.
This change occurs after the departure of Antón Leis, who leaves the Directorate of AECID to take up a senior position at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Tur, a law graduate with a postgraduate degree in International Studies, joined the Diplomatic Corps in 2007 and has until now served as Director of the Technical Cabinet of AECID.
As detailed by the Agency in a statement, Victoria Tur (Tarragona, 1981) has held various positions in the Spanish foreign service, including Deputy Head of Mission at the Spanish Embassies in Zimbabwe and Jamaica, as well as Counselor at the Spanish Embassy in Berlin.
Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, she has been part of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for the European Union, the Directorate General for International Economic Relations, and has served as Deputy Assistant Director General for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Her career is also closely linked to Spanish Cooperation. Within AECID, she led the Head of the then Department of Cooperation with the Arab World and Asia.
AECID, an agency dependent on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, has the mission to promote, plan, coordinate, and implement Spanish policy for sustainable international development cooperation, humanitarian action, and education for global citizenship.
