The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, held a working meeting this Wednesday at the Ministry's headquarters with his Lebanese counterpart, Nizar Hani, focused on matters of shared interest in the agricultural field and on promoting collaboration between both countries.

Hani's visit to Spain coincides with his participation in the international fruit and vegetable fair Fruit Attraction 2026, which is being held at Ifema Madrid until tomorrow.

Fruit Attraction is considered the international reference event for the fruit and vegetable business. A showcase that, as Planas emphasized, reflects the "strength and competitiveness" of the Spanish agri-food system.

Among the main objectives of the Lebanese delegation is the exchange of technical experience, especially in areas related to the modernization of irrigation systems, the use of unconventional water, and agricultural insurance, priority action lines for the Government of Spain in agricultural policy.

The Ministry of Agriculture has pointed out that this meeting highlights the "good health" of the ties between Spain and Lebanon, which was formalized last February with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation, on the occasion of the meeting in Madrid between the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, to strengthen bilateral relations.

This memorandum in agricultural matters is aimed at developing cooperation in agricultural policies, animal and plant health, research, laboratories, marketing of products, and harmonization with international standards recognized by the European Union.
