The Department of Education, Science and Universities of the Government of Aragon has communicated this Friday an unprecedented boost in attention to emotional well-being within the educational system through the full-time incorporation of a psychiatrist and a specialist nurse.
Starting next September 1st, the Technical Unit of Mental Health of the Department will integrate these two new professionals, in an action coordinated with Health that aims to offer a joint response to the emotional challenges faced by teachers and students in educational centers.
This measure is added to other actions planned in this area for the 2026/27 academic year, such as the reinforcement of the Specialized Guidance Teams: 2 orientation specialists and another 2 in Vocational Training and Labor Guidance (FOL) will be added to the Coexistence team; 5 positions are added to the ASD team, 2 in Zaragoza, 2 in Huesca, and 1 in Teruel; a new orientation position is created in the Physical Disability team, and a Therapeutic Pedagogy (PT) teacher is incorporated into the Mental and Behavioral Disorder team in Zaragoza.
The Minister of Education, Science and Universities, Carmen Susín, detailed this reinforcement this Friday, during her speech in the plenary session of the Courts of Aragon, where she recalled that in the 2025/26 academic year, a total of 1,096 protocols for risk of suicidal ideation were registered in educational centers, compared to 758 in the previous period.
School Bullying Protocols and Prevention Measures
In parallel, 550 school bullying protocols have been launched, which represents an increase of 164 cases, partly due to increased awareness and better teacher training for early detection.
To respond to this reality, the Government of Aragon carried out a review of the protocols against school bullying with the aim of reducing the administrative burden on teachers and speeding up the response.
Following these changes, management teams must activate the protocol in the face of any reasonable indication of bullying within a maximum of 24 hours, the number of essential documentary annexes was reduced from 10 to only four, and a limit of 10 school days was set to complete the procedure.
On the preventive level, the regional Executive has committed to expanding the REBIÉN programs (which reach 4,125 students in 29 centers), HENKA (with 5,613 students in 28 secondary education centers), and Responsible Education (17 centers).
As a novelty for the 2026/27 academic year, work is already underway to launch, within the Aeducar platform, a series of free courses for parents on artificial intelligence and responsible use of devices.
Through this same channel, "training pills" and a specific well-being itinerary linked to digital environments will be offered, with the aim of consolidating educational centers as protective spaces for students and reinforcing their mental health, especially after the emotional impact derived from the pandemic.
