The Plenary of the Cortes of Aragon has ratified this Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Jorge Azcón as president of the regional government for the XII legislature, thanks to the 26 supports from the PP and the 14 from Vox, which add up to 40 of the 67 seats in the Chamber. The rest of the formations —PSOE, CHA, Aragón-Teruel Existe and IU— have rejected his candidacy.
The vote has been carried out by roll-call vote, starting with the PP parliamentarian José Luis Bancalero, and has proceeded without incident, confirming the expected outcome. After the count, the president of the Cortes, María Navarro, has proclaimed Azcón's investiture, which has been met with an ovation from PP and Vox.
Azcón faces his second term
In this way, Azcón faces his second term at the head of the Aragonese Executive. He was first elected in the summer of 2023, when he formed a coalition government between the PP and Vox, which lasted for one year, followed by another period in which he governed alone with the PP.
The president decided to advance the regional elections in December, after Vox refused to back the budget bill. The elections took place on February 8, initiating a negotiation period of just over two months that culminated in mid-April with the signing of a new pact with Vox.
This agreement includes measures such as national priority and the commitment to approve four consecutive budgets between 2027 and 2030, thus consolidating the parliamentary stability of the regional Executive.
