The arrest of Jonathan Andic has turned the death of Isak Andic, founder of Mango, into one of the most followed judicial and business cases of the moment. The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested the businessman's son as part of the investigation into the death of his father, who died during a hike on Montserrat mountain in December 2024.

The Prosecutor's Office has requested provisional detention, which can be avoided by posting a bail of one million euros, for Jonathan Andic, as well as the withdrawal of his passport, a prohibition from leaving Spain, and periodic appearances before the judicial authority, according to several media outlets. The son of the Mango founder has testified before the Martorell court and, according to the same information, has only answered his defense's questions.

The investigation remains under seal and should be read with caution: Jonathan Andic is under investigation, but not convicted. The family maintains his innocence and has stated that they are cooperating with justice.

The key date: December 14, 2024

Isak Andic died on December 14, 2024, during a hiking route in the Collbató area, next to Montserrat mountain. The founder of Mango was 71 years old.

Initially, the death was treated as a mountain accident. However, the investigation changed focus months later and began to be analyzed as a possible homicide. Jonathan Andic was the only person accompanying his father at the time of the fall, a central element for investigators.

The fall: a route in Montserrat and a ravine

Father and son had taken a route in the area of the Salnitre Caves, in Collbató. The fall occurred during the return, in a mountainous environment with slopes, narrow sections, and unprotected areas.

Published reports place the fall in a high ravine. Reuters speaks of more than 100 meters and AP reports an approximate fall of 150 meters.

That point is one of the keys to the case: the Mossos have tried to reconstruct whether the fall was compatible with an accidental incident or if there are indications of external intervention. The defense maintains Jonathan Andic's innocence.

From accident to possible homicide

The case was initially opened as an accident. Later, the case was reactivated and the Mossos began investigating the death as a possible homicide.

Jonathan Andic has appeared before the court in relation to this investigation and the proceedings remain under seal. The change in the investigation's direction occurred after the emergence of evidence and contradictions that led investigators to keep the homicide hypothesis open.

The Prosecutor's Office requests a one million euro bail

The Prosecutor's Office has requested provisional detention, which can be avoided by posting a one million euro bail, for Jonathan Andic.

The Public Prosecutor's Office also requests additional precautionary measures: withdrawal of passport, prohibition of leaving Spain, and periodic appearances before the judicial authority. The final decision now rests with the investigating court of Martorell, which will have to decide whether to adopt these measures or release the investigated person with other precautions.

Who is Jonathan Andic

Jonathan Andic is the eldest son of Isak Andic and Neus Raig. He was born in 1981 and is the brother of Judith and Sarah Andic.

He joined Mango in 2005, after studying Audiovisual Communication in the United States and completing executive training at IESE. In 2007, he took over the direction of Mango Man, one of the group's key lines.

He later assumed greater responsibilities in the company, becoming one of the figures expected to participate in the founder's succession.

Jonathan Andic led the company for a brief period, between 2014 and 2018, marked by business losses and a lack of direction, before Isak Andic regained control and later relied on Toni Ruiz as an external executive.

The failed succession at Mango

One of the key points that has emerged in the information about the case is the professional relationship between father and son. Jonathan Andic's tenure at the helm of Mango was marked by internal tensions and losses close to 100 million euros over several fiscal years.

Isak Andic eventually removed his son from the executive frontline and opted for Toni Ruiz, who would go on to become CEO and later Chairman of Mango. This business succession has been described by several sources as a sensitive point in the relationship between the founder and his firstborn.

Isak Andic's fortune and the weight of Mango

Isak Andic was one of Spain's wealthiest individuals and the richest businessman in Catalonia. Forbes attributed a fortune of approximately 4.5 billion euros to him.

Mango is one of the great Spanish fashion groups. Reuters points out that the company closed 2025 with 3.8 billion euros in revenue, presence in 120 markets and some 2,900 stores. That economic weight explains why the case has overflowed the police and judicial sphere: it affects one of the most relevant business families in Spain and a global brand.

The family and the defense of Jonathan Andic

The Andic family has publicly defended Jonathan's innocence and has highlighted his collaboration with the investigation. A family spokesperson maintained that Jonathan cooperates with justice and maintains his innocence.

What can happen now

The immediate decision is in the hands of the Martorell court. The judge must decide whether to accept the Public Prosecutor's request to impose prison avoidable with bail of one million euros or if she agrees to other precautionary measures.

From there, the investigation must clarify three central questions: if the fall was compatible with an accident, if there is sufficient evidence to support the hypothesis of homicide and what weight the statements, technical reports and evidence collected by the Mossos have.

The key figures of the Jonathan Andic case

  • December 14, 2024: date of Isak Andic's death.
  • 71 years: age of the founder of Mango when he passed away.
  • 45 years: age of Jonathan Andic, eldest son of the businessman.
  • 1 million euros: bail requested by the Public Prosecutor's Office to avoid provisional prison.
  • More than 100 meters: approximate minimum height of the fall, according to Reuters; other information places it around 150 meters.
  • 4.5 billion euros: fortune attributed to Isak Andic by Forbes.
  • 3.8 billion euros: Mango's revenue in 2025.
  • 2,900 stores and 120 markets: international dimension of Mango.

The questions that remain open

The case now enters a decisive phase. The investigation must determine if the death of Isak Andic was a mountain accident or if there are sufficient elements to support another hypothesis. To also remains to be seen what precautionary measures are imposed on Jonathan Andic and how the process affects the family owner of Mango, the governance of the company and the public narrative of one of the best-known business sagas in Spain.
