The president of Mercadona, Juan Roig, allocated in 2025 a total of 220 million euros from his personal assets and dividends to initiatives linked to the economy, entrepreneurship, sports, and culture.
The investment is part of its reinvestment strategy through different projects that seek to boost economic and social development, especially in the Valencian Community.
From his salary to business and social projects
According to the company's data, Roig's gross remuneration reached 12 million euros, which is reduced to about 5.5 million net after taxes.
To this figure is added the dividend received for his participation in Mercadona, which amounted to 187 million euros, part of which is allocated to his initiatives.
The ‘Legacy Project’: the axis of his strategy
A large part of this investment is channeled through the so-called ‘Legacy Project’, an initiative focused on:
- Entrepreneurship
- Business training
- Culture and art
- Sports patronage
The project starts from the idea of returning part of the generated heritage to society.
Marina de Empresas: the engine of entrepreneurship
One of the key pillars is Marina de Empresas, considered one of the largest entrepreneurship ecosystems in the Mediterranean.
Includes three large areas:
- EDEM (business training)
- Lanzadera (startup accelerator)
- Angels (investment in entrepreneurs)
In 2025, Roig allocated 11 million euros to this environment.
Sport and major cultural projects
The investment also reaches the sports and cultural sphere through initiatives such as:
- Trinidad Alfonso Foundation
- Valencia Basket
- Roig Arena
This last one is one of the great recent projects, with an accumulated investment of more than 400 million euros.
The context: Mercadona's growth
The reinvestment coincides with an increase in Mercadona's dividends, which in 2025 reached 346 million euros, 25.8% more than the previous year.
This growth reinforces the group's ability to continue driving initiatives outside of purely commercial business.
