The Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office has requested the Audiencia Nacional (AN) to order the provisional imprisonment of Joakim Broberg, stepson of the mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz (PP), barely a week after he was sentenced to nine years in prison for drug trafficking and money laundering offenses.

As reported by 'El País' and confirmed by fiscal sources to Europa Press, Antidroga has requested this precautionary measure for both Broberg and four other convicted individuals, citing an evident risk of flight.

In addition to the nine-year prison sentence, the Audiencia Nacional court that tried the case imposed a fine of 4.9 million euros on Broberg.

In this resolution, the Audiencia Nacional convicted 21 of the 24 people who stood trial for drug trafficking offenses, belonging to a criminal organization mainly composed of Swedish nationals, and money laundering.

The process tried members of different criminal organizations, connected to each other, for several seizures of marijuana and hashish, as well as for money laundering operations originating from drug trafficking.

The sentence considers it proven that Broberg "acted as a leader" in a structure dedicated to sending drugs to northern Europe, especially to Sweden.

The magistrates highlighted that Broberg was "stably and permanently" part of the drug trafficking activity, specifically hashish and marijuana, although they acquitted him of the crime of integration into a criminal organization, understanding that this criminal type cannot be imputed to him "beyond the specific participation" he maintained with members of other criminal networks.

Likewise, the ruling declares it proven that the stepson of the 'popular' mayor laundered 4.8 million euros through the acquisition of homes, other real estate, and gold and precious stones.
