The artist Julio Iglesias has filed a lawsuit before the Supreme Court against the second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, for an alleged violation of his right to honor, and is seeking compensation of 50,000 euros.
Legal sources cited by Europa Press indicate that the singer has decided to take legal action after the leader attributed to him subjecting his employees to "sexual abuses" and keeping them in a "situation of slavery".
Before reaching the Supreme Court, Iglesias, represented by lawyer José Antonio Choclán, had promoted a conciliation act for the vice president of the Government to publicly rectify a message published on social media. As that rectification did not occur, and given that Díaz is protected before the high court, the artist has formalized the lawsuit.
On January 13, Díaz disseminated on her networks information with the headline 'Former workers of Julio Iglesias's mansions accuse the singer of sexual assaults'. Along with the news, she added: "Chilling testimonies. Sexual abuses and a situation of slavery with a power structure based on permanent aggression".
Iglesias's defense stated in a February document that, the day after, the vice president was interviewed on a television program in which the complaint presented by several former workers of the singer was addressed, a case that the Prosecutor's Office did not admit as it understood it was not competent to investigate it.
In that context, they add, Díaz stated that the workers "were in a position of extreme inferiority, extreme as human beings, extreme as workers of Julio Iglesias", and that "the investigation is terrifying, it is panic-inducing, all the violations of human rights are concentrated in women".
The document emphasizes that, as "a high public official of the State, she issued to public opinion first through a social network and, later, through a television medium clear prejudices of guilt against Iglesias, such as that sexual abuses were committed in his house, the workers were in a state of slavery and fundamental rights were systematically violated".
With that prior request, Iglesias sought for Díaz "to agree to recognize the seriously injurious and slanderous nature of the statements, that an improper parallel judgment has occurred from a public extrajudicial authority, making injurious and slanderous assertions, which have harmed the honor and image and social reputation" of the singer.
