Begoña Gómez, wife of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has requested authorization from Judge Juan Carlos Peinado to travel abroad between July 7 and 10, despite the withdrawal of her passport ordered by the magistrate on June 20 as part of the judicial investigation he is conducting against her.

According to the document filed by her defense, Gómez intends to travel on July 7 to Ankara (Turkey) with the Spanish delegation and on an official plane to accompany the head of the Executive at the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The document recalls that the investigated party handed over her passport last Wednesday in compliance with the precautionary measures imposed by the court and requests specific authorization to make said trip.

She also wants to attend her daughter's graduation in England

Gómez's defense, represented by lawyer Antonio Camacho, also explains that the trip would conclude in England, where the President's wife intends to attend her daughter's graduation.

According to the document, the return to Spain would take place on July 10 on a commercial flight from Great Britain.

The lawyer also emphasizes that throughout the trip, Gómez would be accompanied by the security detail that protects the President of the Government on all his official trips, a circumstance that, in his opinion, fully guarantees the security and control of his client's movements.

The request comes after the passport withdrawal

The request comes after Judge Juan Carlos Peinado agreed to open oral proceedings against Begoña Gómez, her advisor Cristina Álvarez, and the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, in addition to ordering the withdrawal of the passports of the first two as a precautionary measure.

The defense of the President's wife has already appealed that decision before the Provincial Court of Madrid, requesting that both the passport withdrawal, the prohibition of leaving Spain, and the obligation to appear in court every two weeks be annulled.

These measures were adopted by the magistrate after the preliminary hearing held at the courts of Plaza de Castilla, after popular accusers, led by Hazte Oír, requested their imposition. While the appeal is being resolved, the judge must now decide whether to authorize the trip requested by Begoña Gómez to attend both the NATO summit and her daughter's graduation.
