The Italian rider Fabio Di Giannatonio (Ducati) won this Sunday the MotoGP race of the Catalunya Grand Prix, the sixth event of the Motorcycle World Championship, marked by the chilling accident of Alex Márquez (Ducati) which forced the waving of the first of the two red flags seen this Sunday at the premier class event, in which Spaniards Joan Mir (Honda) and Fermín Aldeguer (Ducati) completed the podium.

Everything was going according to plan at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya when on lap 12 of the 24 scheduled, after an electronic failure on Acosta's bike, Alex Márquez lost control of his bike trying to avoid him and ended up on the grass, with the machine flying back onto the track, narrowly avoiding a disaster.

The rider from Cervera ended up in the hospital and the race was restarted with a new accident that caused the second red flag, and it was not until the third restart that everything was decided. In it, 'Diggia' won to achieve his first victory since Qatar 2023, ahead of Spaniards Joan Mir (Honda) and Fermín Aldeguer (Ducati).

The crash of Jorge Martín (Ducati), second in the championship, after an incident with Raúl Fernández (Aprilia), ended his chances of scoring points and allowed Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), fifth, to consolidate his lead in the standings. Now, the Italian has 139 points, 12 more than the rider from Madrid and 23 more than 'Diggia', who snatched third place in the World Championship from Pedro Acosta (KTM), who crashed on the last corner of the last lap due to the Japanese rider Ai Ogura (Aprilia).

Broken Collarbone and C7 Vertebra

The shocking images of Álex Márquez's accident made people fear the worst. However, despite the severity, the subsequent news reassured the family and fans of the Spanish rider, who was declared out of danger and conscious upon arrival at the Hospital General de Cataluña where he will undergo surgery.

Márquez has a fracture of his right collarbone and the c7 vertebra, located at the base of the neck. According to doctors, his collarbone will be stabilized and they will closely monitor the cervical injury to rule out neurological damage.
