Eighteen people have been injured with varying degrees of severity after a tourist train overturned in the Malaga municipality of Cártama.
About 30 people were traveling in the vehicle when the accident occurred, which happened around 9:40 PM this Saturday on Santo Cristo street.
Nine minors among the injured
According to sources from the Provincial Council of Malaga, the provisional toll of the incident is 18 injured, of which nine are adults and another nine are minors.
The affected minors are between 5 and 17 years old and were attended to by the health services dispatched to the area.
Firefighter intervention
A unit from the Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Coín was dispatched to the scene of the accident and participated in the initial assistance efforts.
Firefighters performed first aid tasks in support of health services, in addition to preventive and assistance tasks to stabilize the overturned carriage.
Transfer to hospitals
The injured were treated at the scene by health teams and subsequently transferred to different hospitals.
Some were evacuated by ambulance, while others went on their own, depending on the severity of the injuries and the assessment made by the emergency services.
Investigation of causes
The causes of the tourist train overturning have not yet been revealed. Authorities will now have to determine what caused the accident and whether the vehicle was traveling with all the required safety conditions.
The incident has generated a large mobilization of emergency services in Cártama, especially due to the presence of minors among the injured and the number of people traveling on the train at the time of the incident.
