The president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, has linked the supposed good results of the policies applied by the governments of Spain and Catalonia with "coincidences in certain agendas".

He stated this on Monday during the 41st Cercle d'Economia Meeting, which is being held until Wednesday at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, alluding indirectly to the judicial proceedings on alleged corruption cases affecting the Government and the PSOE.

"Perhaps that is precisely what bothers some. That Catalonia and Spain are moving forward. We want to break the vicious circle of populism in Europe and the set of democracies that until now we believed to be more advanced than ours. Perhaps it is precisely the success of the governments of Catalonia and Spain that explains so many coincidences in certain agendas."

He defended that both executives are working to increase productivity "without leaving anyone behind" and with the aim of reinforcing social cohesion and integrating all groups, and that this is, in his opinion, what bothers certain sectors.

Despite this, he stressed that they will maintain the course of the current political project: "Let me say it clearly: Nothing and no one will divert us from our purpose or our duty. We will continue governing with rigor, with responsibility, and with humanity above all else," Illa concluded.
