The spokesperson for feminism and equality of the BNG in the Parliament of Galicia, Noa Presas, has lashed out this Monday against the decision of the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, to "reward" the former minister Alfonso Villares by appointing him new delegate of the Xunta in Lugo, despite the "such serious accusations he has behind him".
Villares has been appointed as the new territorial delegate of the Galician government in Lugo after the case opened for an alleged sexual assault has been dismissed. This was communicated by Rueda after the meeting of the Consello de la Xunta held this Monday.
The head of the regional executive has stressed that Villares "resigned due to an accusation that the justice system ended up dismissing" —in reference to the complaint filed by a well-known presenter— and has defended that "he is now resuming his political career" as representative of the Xunta in Lugo.
In response to this announcement, Presas has censured that, instead of offering apologies to the victims, the Galician government has opted to place Villares in an institutional position again. The Bloque deputy has emphasized that the dismissal of the case is "provisional" and has insisted that, during the judicial proceedings, "the facts are not denied, nor is it declared that this person is innocent".
For the BNG, this decision represents "the height of the positioning against victims of sexist violence" and, in view of what it describes as an appointment "absolutely regrettable from all points of view", the nationalist party has concluded that all that remains is to formally condemn the appointment of Villares as delegate of the Xunta in Lugo.
