The Generalitat Valenciana has begun to design the recovery plan for the Serra d'Espadà after the forest fire declared on July 25 in the Vall d'Uixó, which devastated 9,568 hectares, of which 3,688 belong to the Natural Park of the Serra d'Espadà. The objective of the Consell is to coordinate with the affected municipalities the reconstruction of infrastructures, the restoration of the natural environment, and the recovery of services damaged by the fire.
The third vice president and conseller of Environment, Infrastructures, and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, has toured the towns of Artana, la Vilavella, and Alfondeguilla in recent days to assess the damage and hold meetings with municipal officials. As he explained, the plan aims to respond to the specific needs of each municipality and act as quickly as possible.
Infrastructures, water, and fire prevention
Among the first actions planned is the repair of forest tracks, essential to facilitate firefighting efforts and act as firebreaks, as well as the recovery of water tanks and other infrastructures aimed at fire prevention.
The Generalitat will also prioritize the restoration of drinking water supply in Artana, where one of the main conduits was damaged by the flames. In addition, the repair of rural roads and irrigation systems will be addressed to minimize the impact on agricultural and livestock activity in the area.
Recovering activity in the affected municipalities
The plan will not be limited to environmental restoration. The Valencian Executive aims to recover as soon as possible the recreational areas and natural spaces most frequented by residents and visitors to promote the return to economic and social normality in the region.
Martínez Mus has emphasized that many of these towns concentrate significant tourist activity during the summer and celebrate their patron festivals at this time, so he considers it a priority to restore functionality to public spaces and the natural environment.
With these actions, the Generalitat seeks to promote the recovery of one of the most emblematic natural spaces of the Comunitat Valenciana, severely affected by the fire that has left almost 9,600 hectares burned and has been one of the largest forest disasters recorded this summer.
