The mystery of the funeral urn found in the locker of a supermarket in Benidorm now has an explanation. The Local Police have located the relatives of the deceased person and have returned the ashes to them: a woman had left the container in the establishment because she was doing renovations in her home and considered that it would remain protected there.

The case began on Monday morning, when a worker checked the lockers used by customers to store bags and personal items while they did their shopping. In one of them, she found an urn and, after confirming that it contained ashes, notified the Local Police.
The agents then disseminated a photograph of the container on social media and requested public collaboration to locate its owners.
"Keys, wallet, mobile... these are the most common forgettings. But we don't find this every day," the police message pointed out. The body recalled that it was not an ordinary object and asked to share the post to help it return to its family.

The post went viral, but the calls made through social media and the media did not allow directly finding the owners.
The Local Police then resorted to their databases and those of other security bodies. These checks allowed identifying the relatives of the deceased person and contacting them to return the urn.
As explained by the spokesperson for the Local Police of Benidorm, Quique Tortosa, the family was unaware that the locker had been opened and that the authorities were looking for the owner of the container.
She stored it during the renovations of her home
The explanation finally resolved the unusual finding. A relative had temporarily deposited the urn in the locker because they were doing renovation works in their house and thought that the supermarket was a safe place to keep it protected.
The Police even considered transferring the ashes to the municipal cemetery in case it was not possible to find its owners. Ultimately, that measure was not necessary and the urn has already been delivered to the family.
