The cruise ship MV Hondius, affected by the hantavirus outbreak, will finally have to dock at the port of Granadilla de Abona, after remaining anchored since Sunday as a preventive measure to reduce health risks.
In these days, the evacuated passengers have been transferred to land by means of boats, in an operation conditioned by the epidemiological situation and the conditions at sea. However, the change in wind registered in the last few hours has forced the device to be modified.
The Maritime Captaincy has recommended to the emergency management the mooring of the vessel "to guarantee the safety" of both passengers and personnel involved in the evacuation efforts.
The Minister of Health, Mónica García, has offered more details on her X account about the operation and has celebrated that, after "very complex days," the operation is now entering its "final phase." "The strong wind and rough seas made it safer to disembark the passengers and for the evacuation teams to work this way," the head of Health pointed out regarding the docking of the cruise ship.
For meteorological reasons and following the recommendation of the Maritime Captaincy, the MV Hondius has been temporarily moored in the Port of Granadilla.
