The State Meteorological Agency forecasts warnings for high temperatures in Madrid, Albacete, Córdoba, Jaén, and Seville. The heat will be especially pronounced in the Guadalquivir valley, where thermometers could approach 39ºC during the central hours of the day.

The episode comes after a fully summery weekend and confirms a transition from May to June marked by values more typical of July than the beginning of meteorological summer.

Almost 40 degrees in Andalusia this Monday

The main focus of the heat this Monday will be in Andalusia. Córdoba, Jaén, and Seville will be on yellow alert for high temperatures, with maximums that could reach 39ºC during the central hours of the day.

The Guadalquivir valley will once again be one of the hottest areas in the country. There, thermometers are expected to exceed 38ºC and momentarily approach 40ºC, a particularly high figure for the first day of June.

The heat will also be intense in Castilla-La Mancha and the Community of Madrid. Albacete and Madrid will be at risk due to maximum temperatures that could be around 36ºC.

Madrid and Albacete, also on heat alert

The Community of Madrid will face another day of very high temperatures. AEMET forecasts values of up to 36ºC in some areas, especially during the afternoon.

Albacete will also be under heat alert, with similar maximums. In general, a large part of the interior of the southern half of the peninsula will exceed 34-36ºC, a situation that maintains the feeling of an early summer.

Although the most extreme heat will be concentrated in Andalusia, the day will be uncomfortable in many cities in the center and south, especially in very exposed streets, urban areas, and areas with little shade.

Tropical nights in the center, south, and Mediterranean

The heat will not be limited to the day. AEMET warns that tropical nights will continue in regions of the center, the southern third of the peninsula, and the Mediterranean coast.

This means that minimum temperatures will not drop below 20ºC in several areas. The direct consequence is poorer nocturnal recovery for the body and a greater sensation of accumulated heat in homes and cities.

This data is key to understanding the episode. It is not just about high maximums for a few hours, but a persistent situation in which the environment barely cools down during the early morning.

Stable Monday in almost all of Spain

In general terms, this Monday stability will dominate. Mostly clear or clear skies will prevail in most of the country, with some intervals of high clouds.

There will be more cloudiness in northern Canarias, northern Galicia, the Cantabrian area, Alborán, and the Balearic Islands, although it will generally tend to clear during the day.

Late in the day, Galicia may become overcast due to the arrival of a front that could bring some weak and scattered precipitation.

Storms in the Pyrenees and northeastern areas

Although the general picture will be of sun and stability, convective clouds will develop in the afternoon in areas of the central and eastern peninsular regions.

The most significant showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Pyrenees, where they could be locally strong in their eastern part. They could also affect other mountains in the northeast in a more isolated way.

In addition, scattered morning fog banks may form in the extreme north of the peninsula and coastal mists in Alborán and the Balearic Islands.

Where temperatures will rise and fall

Maximum temperatures will increase in the Canary Islands, the Cantabrian region, the upper and middle Ebro, the northeast of the Northern plateau, and the north of the Iberian System.

In contrast, they will decrease in the northern half of the Mediterranean and in the Gulf of Cádiz. In the rest of the country, little change is expected, with values still very high for the season.

Minimums will not vary much in general, although they will tend to rise in the Canary Islands and Extremadura and fall in some areas of the north-central peninsula.

Strong winds in the Canary Islands

In the Canary Islands, trade winds will blow with strong intervals and possible very strong gusts in exposed areas.

On the western peninsular coasts, there will be moderate northerly winds, veering to westerly. In Ampurdán, the wind will shift from north to south. In the rest of the country, light winds will prevail, although they will tend to gain intensity during the afternoon.

In the Mediterranean, south and east components will dominate; in the Cantabrian Sea, the north; and in the rest of the country, the west.

Recommendations for the heat this Monday

During this Monday, it is advisable to exercise extreme caution during the central hours of the day, especially between 13:00 and 18:00.

It is recommended to drink water frequently, avoid intense physical exercise outdoors during the hottest hours, protect yourself from the sun, and pay special attention to the elderly, children, chronically ill individuals, and exposed workers.

In areas with tropical nights, it is also advisable to ventilate first thing in the morning, lower blinds during the hours of greatest sunshine, and reduce the use of appliances that generate heat inside the house.

June begins with a full summer atmosphere

The first Monday in June arrives with a clear picture: intense heat, warnings for high temperatures, tropical nights, and values close to 40ºC in the Guadalquivir.

Although not all areas will experience the same level of heat, a large part of Spain will start the month with a fully summery atmosphere.

The situation could begin to change in the coming days in some areas of the north and west, but this Monday the spotlight will continue to be on the heat.
