Hanwha Aerospace signed this Wednesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Spanish defense and technology company Indra with the aim of jointly promoting armored vehicle solutions destined for the Chilean Army and collaborating on different defense projects in Latin America.

The signing of the agreement took place during the International Air and Space Fair (Fidae), which is held in Santiago, Chile, as detailed by the Spanish company in a note released this Thursday.

Participating in the event were the head of Hanwha Aerospace's land systems area, Dong Hyeon Kim, Indra's director of defense and security for America, Domingo Castro Fernández, and Indra's director of business development for land systems, María Dolores Carrillo Aguilera.

Indra will assume regional coordination

The ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Chile, Hak-jae Kim, also attended the ceremony and delivered some words of congratulation. Based on the memorandum, both companies will jointly promote an integrated solution for the new generation armored vehicle program that Chile is preparing.

In this collaboration, Hanwha Aerospace will be responsible for providing the armored vehicle platforms, while Indra will integrate the mission systems, which include connectivity, situational awareness, and command and control -C2- systems, among others, and will assume the role of regional coordinator. The agreement also opens the door to broader cooperation in land defense programs in other Latin American countries.

"Indra has capabilities in defense electronics and a solid track record in Latin America that complement our vehicle platforms," declared the head of Hanwha Aerospace, who added that through this MoU both companies will be able to "offer a more complete package to the armed forces of the region."

For his part, the director of defense and security for America at Indra highlighted that this alliance establishes an "optimal framework for combining the key technologies and areas of excellence of both companies into a competitive and state-of-the-art product, capable of responding to a high demand in the region."
