The Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, met this Tuesday with the newly appointed director of the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT), Antonio Ansón Latorre, accompanied by his predecessor in office, Soledad Fernández Doctor, and by the Secretary of State for Finance, Jesús Gascón, in order to review the immediate and medium-term challenges facing this public body.
Ansón Latorre, appointed this very Tuesday by the Council of Ministers, was born in Zaragoza in 1962 and holds a degree in Law from the University of that city. He has been a State Tax Inspector since 1999 and has been associated with the Tax Agency as a Tax Technician since 1988, and has an "extensive and recognized professional career" in the field.
Furthermore, he developed part of his career at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in Washington, where he worked between 2014 and 2022 in the Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD).
The change in the AEAT's leadership takes place in a context of "normality," in which the main objectives of the 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, promoted during the first part of Fernández's term, are considered already met or in the final phase.
"His deep knowledge of the tax administration and the Spanish tax system, combined with his management experience in public service and his solid international career, support a particularly qualified profile to assume the leadership of the Tax Agency in this new stage," the Ministry explained in a press release.
During the meeting, Arcadi España, along with Ansón and Fernández, discussed the challenges currently facing the tax administration. Fernández has led the Tax Agency since June 2022, in a period that the Ministry of Finance has defined as "professional, rigorous, and independent."
