Europe has established itself as the favorite option for Spanish tourists for this summer's holidays, accounting for 60% of travel insurance policies taken out by June, according to data from AXA Partners.

This percentage represents a doubling of its share at the beginning of the year, when the continent accounted for barely 30% of the total policies issued. This trend indicates a clear shift away from long-haul intercontinental travel, whose share has fallen from 50% recorded at the start of the fiscal year to now stand below 30%.

In contrast, established destinations outside of Europe such as the United States, Canada, or Japan maintain stable performance and account for almost a fifth of the policies formalized.

This inclination towards European destinations has modified the list of the ten most requested countries by Spanish travelers. Markets that led preferences in previous campaigns, such as Thailand, Argentina, or Colombia, have lost presence in favor of new poles of attraction within the continent, among which Turkey and Albania stand out.

At the same time, classic nearby destinations such as Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Greece, or Portugal continue to hold a prominent position. Outside of Europe, the only countries that manage to remain among the top positions in the ranking are Morocco, China, Japan, and the Dominican Republic.

Shorter stays and greater weight of cancellation

The analysis by the firm specialized in assistance within the AXA Group also identifies changes in consumption patterns. The average duration of trips for this summer season ranges between 10 and 11 days, a behavior that aligns with the preference for more distributed holiday periods throughout the year.

In parallel, the company has observed a significant increase in the advance notice with which travel insurance is purchased. According to the report, this trend is largely explained by the interest in products that include specific cancellation coverages, reflecting users' intention to guarantee the reimbursement of their holiday expenses against possible unforeseen events before departure.
