Last-minute bookings made by Spanish travelers to fly in August have skyrocketed in the second half of July, with an increase of 104.5% compared to the same period last year. According to the latest data from the travel platform Kiwi.com, this surge in demand has translated into a 96.7% rise in the total number of passengers.

Despite this strong increase in last-minute purchases, fares have not become more expensive. The average price per traveler has recorded a year-on-year decrease of 4.2%, a trend that the company links to a greater supply of seats in the market and to consumers comparing more options until the final moment of booking.

Spain reinforces its position as the preferred destination for domestic tourists, concentrating 44% of all last-minute operations and recording a rise of 145.6% compared to 2025.

Ibiza, Bilbao, and Menorca drive growth

By regions, the largest relative advances in passenger arrivals are located in Ibiza, where bookings have quadrupled (+293.3%), as well as in Bilbao (+209.5%) and Menorca (+124.6%).

If we analyze the absolute volume by cities, the list is led by Madrid (+133.6%), Palma de Mallorca (+163.9%), and Barcelona (+136.8%). Following are Valencia (+164.9%), Alicante (+144.1%), Málaga (+141.9%), Sevilla (+93.6%), and Tenerife (+77%).

Italy leads international destinations

On the international front, Italy ranks as the second most chosen destination by Spaniards, with an advance of 107.2%, ahead of the United Kingdom (+72.6%), Thailand (+73.1%), and Portugal (+49.9%).

The platform also highlights three-digit increases in long-distance and less common routes such as the Philippines (+170.7%), Albania (+152.8%), Greece (+121.8%), and Poland (+104.8%). At the same time, European city getaways to cities like Rome (+102.2%), Dublin (+94.6%), Milan (+93.6%), and London (+70.5%) remain strong.

The company explains that this pattern responds to a change in the way vacations are planned, as many users delay the purchase decision to better adjust the dates and take advantage of more competitive prices.
