Meininger Hotels will launch its first hotel in Spain on June 25. It will be the Meininger Hotel Barcelona Fira Gran Via, a project announced in 2024 that marks the start of the chain's operations in the Spanish market, considered key in its expansion plan for Southern Europe.
This opening will be the company's first after a three-year pause – since its last openings in 2023 in Venice, Krakow, and Cologne – and will bring its international network to 37 establishments.
The firm has announced that Barcelona will be the gateway to a new phase of growth on the Iberian Peninsula, where the opening of a second hotel in Madrid is already planned for 2027.
The new hotel is located in a renovated former office building, with more than 6,000 square meters, 162 private rooms totaling over 500 beds, and 30 parking spaces for its clients.
The CEO of Meininger Hotels, Ajit Menon, has emphasized that this opening constitutes "an important milestone" in its European growth strategy. "Located in the heart of Catalonia, Barcelona is a top-tier international destination that combines leisure and business travel year-round. It is the ideal starting point to introduce our hybrid concept in Spain," he stated.
Hybrid concept and commitment to sustainability
The hotel maintains the brand's characteristic model, which combines the services and amenities of a traditional hotel with the flexibility and social atmosphere of a hostel.
The accommodation offering ranges from double rooms to stays for four people, designed for corporate travelers, families, organized groups, and individual guests.
Common areas include a lounge area, three terraces, a bar, and a "heat & eat" space for clients to prepare and store their food.
In environmental terms, the building has BREEAM certification for its sustainability and energy efficiency. The hotel operates exclusively on renewable electricity supplied by a local operator and incorporates solar panels, state-of-the-art insulation, and water consumption reduction systems, such as flow limiters on taps and showers.
Facing the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via venue, the establishment aims to attract both trade fair and congress attendees as well as holiday tourism, thanks also to its proximity to Camp Nou and its connections to the city center and Barcelona-El Prat Airport, located 20 minutes away.
