The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, highlighted this Thursday the "historic agreement" reached with all regional governments and social agents within the framework of the State Housing Plan 2026-2030, after "many months of negotiation and work".

In a message disseminated on his 'X' profile, Sánchez stressed that this initiative was proposed at the last conference of presidents, held almost a year ago, and that it has an allocation of 7,000 million euros "to expand affordable housing supply and help people have a home".

For the head of the Executive, the fact that all autonomous communities have supported the plan's fund distribution proposal at this Thursday's sectoral housing conference "is great news for Spain".

"I hope that others will follow after it," he pointed out, emphasizing that the different administrations must cooperate "to solve the housing problem" and that this is "the only way".

Keys to the State Housing Plan 2026-2030

The State Housing Plan 2026-2030 is endowed with up to 7,000 million euros, an amount that triples that of the previous plan, and strengthens the permanent protection of public housing.

According to the planned distribution, 40% of the resources will be allocated to protected housing, 30% to the rehabilitation of the existing residential stock through specific aid, and the remaining 30% will be dedicated to supporting the emancipation of young people, reducing the financial effort rate of households, and acting in stressed areas.

Likewise, the plan incorporates the principle of indefinite protection of public housing, so that properties acquired or promoted with program funds will permanently maintain their protected status, with the aim of preventing speculation with public housing stock.

The financial design of the State Housing Plan 2026-2030 establishes that the State will assume 60% of the total investment, while the autonomous communities will cover the remaining 40%. This implies that regional governments will have to make a somewhat greater effort than in previous plans, in which their contribution was 25% of the budget and the rest was borne by the State.
