The average affiliation of foreign workers increased in May by 111,301 people compared to April, which represents an advance of 3.43%, reaching a new historical maximum of 3,359,548 employed individuals from outside Spain.

This group of contributors represented 15% of the total Social Security affiliates in May, according to data released this Friday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations.

Compared to May of last year, the number of foreign employed individuals has increased by 288,717 people, implying an interannual growth of 9.4%, compared to the 2.5% increase recorded in overall affiliation.

Excluding the effects of seasonality and calendar, Social Security registers 3,251,519 affiliates from other countries, after adding 279,433 foreign contributors in the last 12 months.

"Foreigners are a large part of the engine of our country's growth. There are foreigners present in all sectors. Although in some like hospitality, construction, or the agricultural sector they are essential; we see that their presence is growing in all of them," explained Minister Elma Saiz.

The Department has emphasized that, since May 2022, the total number of foreign affiliates has increased by more than 900,000 employed individuals. Furthermore, 43.4% of the employment generated since the labor reform came into effect corresponds to foreign nationals.
