The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has awarded 433.44 million euros from the Recovery Plan (PRTR) in grants to 524 new innovative renewable energy projects, including agrivoltaics, floating photovoltaics, or integrated into infrastructures, which in all cases incorporate storage systems.
The definitive resolution of the second call of the Renoinn program also includes collective self-consumption initiatives from which around 9,000 vulnerable users will benefit, as well as climate control projects using renewable heat pumps, according to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
With a very widespread implementation across the national territory, the communities with the highest number of projects that will receive public support are Catalonia (189), Valencian Community (69), Extremadura (19), and Andalusia (19).
In total, the 524 files selected through competitive bidding among the best proposals presented will contribute 1,225.66 megawatts (MW) of new generation to the system, mostly photovoltaic, and 2,320.72 megawatt hours (MWh) of associated storage capacity.
The department headed by Sara Aagesen emphasized that, in addition to incorporating additional power and hybrid storage, the distinctive element of this second call, managed by the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), "is the innovative nature of the selected projects and the added value of integrating renewable energies into the territory and in different productive sectors, while promoting collective self-consumption and the deployment of heat pumps to decarbonize climate control."
Second call of Renoinn and budget increase
This second edition of the Renoinn program has recorded 882 applications, compared to 308 in the initial call, which has necessitated an increase in funding by 110% to accommodate as many projects as possible.
While the first call closed with aid of 148.45 million euros directed to 199 projects, with nearly 300 MW of generation and 351.56 MWh of storage, in Renoinn 2 these figures have tripled.
Among the five differentiated support lines in Renoinn 2, the agrivoltaics with storage concentrates the largest part of the funds, with 234 million euros allocated to 118 projects; of these, 30 are located in Catalonia, 24 in the Valencian Community, and 16 in Castile and León.
More than half of the aids in this category are aimed at agricultural operations dedicated to cereals and woody crops such as olive and fruit trees, where photovoltaic panels are placed on structures more than four meters high. The rest of the resources are distributed among the other two subprograms: photovoltaic with intercropping and photovoltaic installed on supports between two and four meters.
The final resolution also includes 29 floating photovoltaic projects with storage, which will receive a total of 37.1 million euros. Most are under the self-consumption modality and are mainly located in irrigation ponds linked to agricultural uses.
Boosting collective self-consumption and support for vulnerable consumers
Promoting collective self-consumption with storage and the participation of vulnerable users constitutes another of the axes of the RENOINN program. In this specific line, the call allocates 45.7 million euros in aids to the 274 files with the best scores.
According to the reports submitted by the promoters, it is estimated that more than 9,000 consumers in vulnerable situations will be able to benefit from the installations financed through these subsidies.
