The first vice president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) and president of the Madrid Business Confederation-CEOE (CEIM), Miguel Garrido, avoided this Monday commenting on the electoral process in the employers' association out of "respect," although he stated he is "satisfied" with the management of the current board of directors headed by Antonio Garamendi.
"I believe we have done a good job. We have had to go through complex situations and initiatives that could have harmed business interests. Work has been done that has allowed us to mitigate many of those issues that could have reduced our competitiveness. I am satisfied with the work done," he stressed to the media after presenting a report on the perception of Madrid residents towards the region's companies.
The executive committee of the CEOE decided to call the general electoral assembly for October 1, where the new president and his team will be elected for the next four years. The current leader, Antonio Garamendi, has already announced his intention to run again for a third term at the head of the Spanish employers' association.
When questioned about this scenario, Garrido insisted that the Madrid business organization will not yet set a position on the internal elections and will await what is agreed upon in the CEIM board of directors meeting, scheduled for next Monday, July 13, where its definitive position will be established.
"It is evident, as has also happened in the study, that despite having very high satisfaction rates from citizens, I believe we have to continue working. At CEOE, we believe we also have to continue improving to carry out our function, which is the interests of companies. My experience during these four years, certainly, has been positive," he concluded.
