MÉS per Mallorca has expressed its "welcome" to the future law that will regulate vehicle entry to the island, although it has reproached the PP for rejecting its own regulatory proposal in 2024, which is why they consider that they "arrive tremendously late" now.

This was stated by the spokespersons for MÉS per Mallorca in the Consell de Mallorca, Catalina Inés Perelló, and in the Parlament, Lluís Apesteguia, following the announcement made this Monday by the president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, on the initiation of the processing of this new regulation.

Perelló has described the announcement as a "pleasant surprise," since, as she recalled, the matter had been "stalled" for about a year in negotiation tables, despite the fact that "it seemed that a consensus had been reached."

In this regard, she has criticized that, even though there has been an agreement for half a year, the Consell argued that it was necessary to reach a pact with shipping companies and 'rent a car' companies. At the same time, she has stressed that PP and Vox maintain a "very stable and tied" pact in the Consell, so they will remain "on standby" until they know the text that will be submitted for debate in Friday's plenary session.

The councilor from MÉS has emphasized that, despite Galmés promising that upon his arrival at the Consell he would manage to "unblock Mallorca," the island "is more blocked" and has indicated that she "does not trust" that the vehicle limitation can come into effect next tourist season.

For his part, Apesteguia has chided the PP for initially refusing to promote this measure, arguing that it should come from the Consell de Mallorca itself, and has denounced that they have been "two years with studies that are useless."

The eco-sovereigntist leader has maintained that the president of the Govern, Marga Prohens, "has not wanted" to limit the arrival of cars to the island despite having sufficient tools and majorities to do so.

"For the four summers that Prohens has been president, she has not wanted to limit vehicle entry, because she has not wanted to. This confirms the false discourse of containment and degrowth when in practice they do not want to apply it," he stated.

The deputy explained that, after the initial approval of the law, the text will have to undergo a public information period and, subsequently, be definitively approved in the Consell before being sent to the Parlament. At this point, he recalled that the regional Parliament will be dissolved in March 2027 and warned that it already has a "considerable legislative backlog."

Likewise, he has remarked that the eco-sovereignists were the first to demand this limitation and to guarantee its approval, for which he has denounced the "lack of political will of the PP to be brave" and "prioritize the lives of Mallorcans".

Apesteguia has predicted that PP and Vox will exhibit their differences regarding this law, assuming roles for the 2027 elections that, in his opinion, are "false," given that "on the important issues they agree." In this context, he has recalled the recent approval, last Tuesday, of an omnibus law "harmful to the citizens of the Balearic Islands".
