The Transport Commission of the Congress will submit for debate and voting this Tuesday a non-legislative proposal registered by Sumar, with which the party intends to pressure the socialist sector of the Executive to "definitively paralyze" the remote tower project at Menorca airport and demand the urgent construction of a new physical control tower at these facilities.

According to what is stated in the text of the non-legislative initiative, the group that is part of the Government coalition urges the Executive to adopt the "appropriate measures" so that both Aena and Enaire carry out these actions at the Menorcan aerodrome.

In the proposal, which Europa Press has accessed, Sumar also includes the request to "ensure the minimum necessary staff at Menorca Airport, both controllers and air navigation maintenance technicians, according to the needs of the service and the applicable regulations and legislation."

In the statement of reasons, the party argues that "it is clear that it is impossible for the remote tower project to operate in a short period. And the current tower, although Aena is making investments that are merely patches, has serious structural problems that worsen day by day, deteriorating the situation, in addition to housing asbestos cement (asbestos) panels that advise its dismantling and subsequent demolition."

For this reason, Sumar demands the construction of a new physical control tower and warns that "not recognizing the serious current situation could end up causing operational problems that, on an island, could have tremendous social and economic repercussions."
