The Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, has stated that the lack of teaching staff constitutes a "structural problem" on a global scale, although he has admitted that the housing situation in the Balearic Islands adds a specific difficulty when it comes to filling vacancies.
Vera expressed himself in these terms this Thursday during his intervention in the Education and Universities Commission of the Parliament, requested by the PSIB, with the aim of detailing the actions implemented by the Government to address the shortage of teachers.
During his appearance, the minister mentioned a UNESCO report on teaching staff that warns that the schooling needs projected for 2030 will not be met with the available active population.
Despite this global context, he stressed that the rising cost of housing in the Islands makes it difficult to fill positions normally. In response, he has opted to promote economic incentives and other measures that facilitate the relocation of teachers to positions considered difficult to fill.
