The most recent official balance of the powerful earthquakes registered just over a week ago in the central area of the Venezuelan coast places the death toll at almost 3,000 and the injured at more than 16,500.
The president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, has specified that there are 2,954 dead and 16,592 injured due to the earthquakes of magnitude 7.5 and 7.2 on the Richter scale last June 28, which have also caused severe damage to more than 800 buildings, of which 190 have completely collapsed.
Among the affected people are 16,309 citizens who have lost their homes, according to official data. The authorities have also indicated that they have provided assistance to 83,793 families, managed to rescue 6,462 people, and distributed more than 9,480 tons of food and 78,400 bags of food.
Currently, more than 3,300 international rescuers remain deployed to respond to the consequences of the earthquakes, which have been followed by nearly 900 aftershocks, according to the Government.
