An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 on the Richter scale was registered this Monday at 12:15 PM (6:15 PM in peninsular Spain) in waters near Valparaíso, in the central zone of Chile. Authorities have not declared a tsunami alert.
According to the National Seismological Center (CSN) of Chile, the epicenter was located 33 kilometers northwest of Quintero, in the Valparaíso region, and at a depth of 26 kilometers.
Minutes later, a second seismic movement affected the same area again, with the epicenter also near Quintero. This new tremor reached a magnitude of 4.6, while a third earthquake, of magnitude 2.8, occurred at 12:31 PM.
The United States Geological Survey has reported, for its part, the detection of two earthquakes in that area, with magnitudes of 5.1 and 4.8.
