The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, held a meeting this Sunday in Muscat with the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq al Said, as part of his official visit to the country. The stop in Oman comes after his visit on Saturday to Islamabad, one of the countries acting as mediators in the current truce of the US and Israeli military offensive.

During his stay in the Omani capital, Araqchi has praised the "responsible approach" and "prudence" shown by Oman in the diplomatic field and has reiterated Tehran's willingness to maintain "friendly relations" both with the sultanate and with the rest of the states located to the south of the Persian Gulf.

In a message disseminated on social media following his visit to Al Baraka Palace in Muscat, the head of Iranian diplomacy stressed that "the experience of the 40-day imposed war shows that the military presence of the United States in the countries of the region only generates insecurity and division." Based on this assessment, he urged neighboring countries to adopt a "constructive and responsible" stance to articulate security mechanisms "free from United States intervention."

For his part, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al Said has presented his initiatives "to improve the prospects of achieving sustainable political solutions and mitigate the repercussions of regional crises," as reported by the official Omani agency, ONA. Along these lines, he has defended "the language of dialogue and diplomacy" and reiterated Oman's willingness "to provide all necessary assistance" to advance in that direction.

The Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr al Busaidi, also participated in the meeting, with whom Araqchi had already met on Saturday, shortly after his arrival in Oman from Afghanistan, as part of his intense agenda of regional contacts.

In the last few hours, Araqchi has also indicated that he has held telephone conversations with the Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, and with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badrer Abdelati, in the context of ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the United States, initially agreed upon between April 7 and 8, has been extended without a specific deadline and will remain in effect while negotiations continue to try to consolidate a broader agreement.
