A group of armed men has carried out an attack against a cargo ship sailing in waters southwest of the Yemeni coast of Hodeida, according to a statement this Sunday from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), an organization linked to the British Navy.
The freighter was boarded when it was about 30 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port city and, before the assault escalated, the crew members managed to issue a distress signal.
The UKMTO has indicated that the competent authorities have already launched investigations into what happened, although no further details about the incident have been provided for now.
