Chinese authorities have reiterated this Monday their demand to the United States to end the pressure it exerts on Cuba, while criticizing "foreign interference" on the island and reaffirming their support for its national sovereignty.
In a press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning recalled that the historic "total blockade" and "illicit sanctions" have caused "profound suffering" to the Cuban population. "Recently, the United States has once again tightened blockade and sanction measures, severely affecting the basic livelihoods of the Cuban people and causing concern in the international community," she indicated, emphasizing that the Asian giant rejects these policies, which "lack foundation in International Law."
"We urge the United States to immediately end its blockade, coercion, and pressure against Cuba, and to stop violating the rights of the Cuban people to survival and development," the spokesperson emphasized.
In the same vein, Mao highlighted that Beijing clearly supports Cuba "in defending its national sovereignty and in its opposition to external interference." "We are willing to work with the rest of the world to defend international equity and justice," she added.
In a recent interview, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated that Cuba is preparing for a possible aggression from the United States so that "there is no surprise, nor defeat," emphasizing that Cuba is "a country of peace" that does not fear a conflict with Washington.
"Cuba is not a nation in dispute, we are not a colony, and we are not going to renounce our sovereignty or our independence," he declared in a conversation with the British channel Sky News.
