The Russian authorities reported this Tuesday the death of five people and about ten injured after a new wave of drone attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against facilities of the e-commerce giant Wildberries in the Russian capital, Moscow.
"Unfortunately, there are fatalities and injuries. According to preliminary information, five people have died," reported the governor of Moscow, Andrei Vorobiov, on his social media, where he specified that the main damages are concentrated in the municipality of Chekhov, in the south of the capital.
"In the industrial area of Novosiolki, several fires were caused by the impact of a drone. The largest occurred in a warehouse, where the fire has already been extinguished. An electrical substation and an administrative building were also damaged," Vorobiov informed.
In this industrial area of Novosiolki, located in the aforementioned municipality of Chekhov, is the logistics center of several relevant companies, including Wildberries, popularly known as the 'Russian Amazon.'
In parallel, the Ukrainian attacks have also reached other facilities of the company in the regions of Leningrad and Tver, although no casualties have been reported in these locations.
In the town of Krasni Bor, in the Leningrad province and about 20 kilometers southeast of St. Petersburg, a drone struck a logistics center of the brand, causing a fire that has already been extinguished and that forced a temporary interruption of activity.
For his part, the acting governor of the Tver province, Vitali Koroliov, has pointed out on social media that a wall of the Wildberries warehouse in the town of Emmaus "was partially damaged by a drone fragment," with no injuries reported.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has targeted the infrastructure of this Russian giant of online commerce, with around fifteen attacks against logistics centers spread across eleven regions of the country.
This sustained drone offensive is part of Kiev's strategy to strike the Russian economy and undermine the morale of the population, which is also facing supply problems at gas stations due to Ukrainian bombings on refineries and oil stations.
