The far-right candidate, Abelardo de la Espriella (50.33%), is ahead of his left-wing contender, Iván Cepeda (48.04%), in the second round of the presidential elections held this Sunday in Colombia. This is reflected in the official data released by the Colombian National Registry, corresponding to 80.44% of the polling stations already counted.
So far, De la Espriella, along with his vice-presidential running mate, José Manuel Restrepo, has garnered 10,281,481 ballots, while Cepeda and Aida Quilcue have reached 9,813,011 votes, with 98,154 out of 122,020 polling stations reviewed.
If these figures hold, De la Espriella would win the Presidency of Colombia and defeat the officialist candidate, Cepeda, who is backed by the outgoing president, Gustavo Petro.
In the first round, held on May 31, De la Espriella already took the lead, obtaining 43.74% of the votes compared to the 40.9% obtained then by Cepeda.
