The Fuerza Popular candidate for the Presidency of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, has left the door open this Thursday to not accepting the result of the second round this Sunday, in which she will face the left-wing candidate, Roberto Sánchez, over whom she holds a slight advantage, according to the latest polls.
"Well, we'll see. Let the Peruvian people speak," Fujimori replied during an event in the city of Chiclayo, when journalists asked her if she would abide by the results in case of suffering a defeat, as reported by the newspaper "La República".
During the campaign, the far-right leader has once again brought up accusations of electoral fraud, appealing to the irregularities recorded in the first round on April 12, thus reawakening suspicions about the process.
This attitude is not new: already in 2021 she refused to accept the victory of her adversary Pedro Castillo, whom she accused of alleged fraud at the ballot boxes that she never managed to prove.
According to the latest Ipsos poll, released last week, the Fuerza Popular candidate would obtain 38% of the votes compared to 35% for her opponent from Juntos por el Perú, after both appeared tied in voting intention at the end of April.
