Hundreds of residents of the Gaza Strip have gathered this Tuesday to say a final goodbye to 112 members of two Gazan families, in one of the largest funerals since the Israeli offensive began following the attacks by Palestinian militias on October 7, 2023.
The bodies were found in the same location after the airstrikes that hit several apartment blocks in the Al Sabra neighborhood, in the city of Gaza, in November 2023. All the victims belong to the Abu Sharia and Al Hasayna families.
The funeral ceremony was able to take place three years after the attacks due to the enormous difficulties in accessing the area because of the incessant attacks on the enclave. Rescue teams concluded the recovery efforts of the bodies on Saturday, according to the newspaper "Filastin," linked to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
The coffins of the victims, wrapped in Palestinian flags, have been placed aligned on stretchers on the ground before the funeral procession headed to the Sheij Shaaban cemetery, located in the center of the city. Among the deceased are 40 minors.
The total death toll of the Abu Sharia and Al Hasayna families rises to 308, although the Gazan Civil Defense has not been able to recover all the bodies, which remain under the rubble left by the Israeli attacks.
